Here at Chatsworth Hills Academy, we are proud to be certified as an International Baccalaureate World School, providing our young scholars with an internationally-minded education that allows them to recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of our beautiful planet. Offering IB’s Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP), Chatsworth Hills Academy’s International Baccalaureate trained teachers provide your children with a diverse education, allowing them to be prepped and ready for elite colleges all across the US.
When students complete an IB education in their time at CHA, they are equipping themselves with a global intellect that allows them higher college acceptance rates than non-IB students among elite schools in the United States. An IBO survey showed that the acceptance rate of IB students into Ivy League universities is up to 18% higher than the total population acceptance rate.
What Is The International Baccalaureate?
In case you aren’t familiar, the IB is a global standard academic program run by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), an independent, not-for-profit educational system based out of Switzerland. With four high-quality and highly challenging educational programs catering to students ranging from ages 3 to 19, IB teaches students to embrace their own culture while being open and responsive to other cultures across the world.
For over four decades, IB’s global curriculum has reached nearly 4,200 schools worldwide, teaching 1.25 million students the importance of multicultural understanding for a more peaceful world. With more than 75,000 new teachers being trained each year, IB certified schools, such as CHA, take students through a rigorous assessment of international education and immersion, encouraging young scholars to be compassionate, lifelong learners who strive to be accepting of cultural differences and abstract world-views.
The Heart Of The IB Program
At the heart of IBO’s program is the IB Learner Profile, a long-term vision of education that defines the IB continuum of education. The Learner Profile is the IB mission statement in action, providing a set of learning behaviors which aim to inspire and motivate students, teachers, and the entire IB School community at CHA, uniting us all with a common goal: Multicultural compassion and acceptance.
IB Programs That Chatsworth Hills Academy Offers
The Primary Years Programme (PYP)
For students ages 3-12, the PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. The PYP is transdisciplinary and flexible enough to accommodate the demands of most national or local curriculums, providing the best preparation for students to engage in the IB Middle Years Programme.
The Middle Years Programme (MYP)
For students ages 11-16, the MYP provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical, and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and to the real world.
The Middle Years Programme builds upon the knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed in the PYP, preparing students to meet the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related Programme from ages 16-19, after their private education at CHA has been completed.
Why IB Students At CHA Have Higher College Acceptance Rates
IB Students Constantly Challenge Themselves
Elite colleges in the United States love for their applicants to have good grades, but what they love even more is to see that young scholars have pushed themselves to achieve those good grades. When Ivy League admissions officers see the International Baccalaureate qualification on your child’s application, they automatically gain a deep understanding of them as a student, receiving in-depth insight into their dedicated perseverance. Top-tier colleges will know that your child has taken the hard route and that they are not afraid of a challenge. Your child has taken the extra step while other students around them have not.
If your child applies to an elite college with standard high school qualifications, it’s not as easy for admissions officers to fully interpret their academic journey. While they may have achieved stellar grades throughout school, it’s difficult for universities to know their personal challenges, or what was actually required of them. With the IB, there is no question that your child went above and beyond baseline standards! Universities understand the IB’s rigorous studies, and they know that it takes consistent hard work and dedication to complete all 4 educational programs throughout the entirety of their K-12 education.
The IB Student Advantage: Applying To US Universities
Nearly all higher education institutions in the US will consider performance in the IB program for the purpose of admissions, or other factors including granting course credit, advanced standing, scholarships, and financial aid. Purdue University, ranked 56th in the United States for best national universities, states: “Purdue encourages prospective students to seek the most challenging pre-university courses possible. Students taking International Baccalaureate (IB) courses will be considered for admission regardless if they are pursuing the IB diploma or not as long as the general subject matter requirements are met.”
Likewise, the University of Southern California (USC) states: “USC believes that students who undertake an IB curriculum are well-prepared for the rigors of university academic life. IB courses are factored into the admission evaluation process because USC recognizes the extreme rigor of such a curriculum.”
IB Students Have A Vast Intellect
At Chatsworth Hills Academy, our IB program offers a broad education by requiring students to learn about subjects from a range of academic disciplines. This, in turn, gives our students a well-rounded liberal arts perspective, which is highly sought after in the US university admissions process.
IB Students Are Well-Rounded Scholars
This comes as no surprise, considering our IB programs aim to create well-rounded students with our global-minded curriculum. Here at CHA, we make sure our IB students show achievement not only academically, but in extracurricular activities, as well. US universities and admissions officers look for students that participate in community involvement, leadership, research, and impactful projects – all of which are built into our IB curriculum.
