James Connor is a professional music educator with experience teaching professionally in both charter and private k-8 schools. Following in the steps of Quincy Jones, Melissa Etheridge, Lalah Hathaway and John Mayer, James attended Berklee College of Music the most prestigious music school in the world for contemporary music. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music and education.
James has been at CHA for 3 years and has produced and directed several shows with the students: Shrek, Lion King, High School Music and several Winter Concerts. Each year the winter concert showcases the talent of the entire school and includes music of different genres and cultures.
As a professional singer, James’s credits include background vocalist for the rapper Logic on the MTV video music awards show and the Ellen Degeneres Show, background vocalist for John Legend, soloist at the premier of the series Underground on WGN, soloist for David Tutera’s Wedding (host of WE tv’s show, “My Fair Wedding”), solo performance on stage with 16-time Grammy winner David Foster, background vocalist for Chaka Khan, background vocalist for Diana Ross, soloist with the Boston POPS at Boston Symphony Hall, background vocalist for Sean P Diddy Combs and Faith Evans for the Bad Boy Reunion concert in Los Angeles, and special vocalist for Hallmarks’ Christmas Special.
Off Broadway, James performed in a touring show with R&B singers Kenny Lattimore and Chante Moore under the direction of George Faison who won a Tony Award for “The Wiz” on Broadway staring Stephanie Mills. In addition, he performed for two years as the lead singer in several shows that premiered in Osaka, Japan.
In Boston Massachusetts, James served as a music teacher at the Boston Renaissance School as well as the co-director for the school chorus, “The Voices of Renaissance”. While James was working with the choir he and Evelyn Lee (the director and founder) prepared the students to perform on many great stages from Harvard University to the White House on several occasions.
James also is a piano player and teacher and has performed on the trumpet, trombone and French horn.
In James’s earlier years his performance credits include traveling the world on tour with the “Total Experience Gospel Choir” from Seattle, Washington as a piano player and musical director. The choir performed in Australia Russia, Japan, Germany and Nicaragua.
