In 1999, Tom, also known as Coach B by the CHA Community, began working for the YMCA in Porter Ranch as a Youth Program Director, developing youth fitness programs for children ages 3-15, as well as developing PE programs for several local LAUSD elementary schools. In 2002 Tom was asked to help revive the youth sports and camp programs for the East Valley YMCA in North Hollywood. While working at East Valley YMCA I built a cooperative relationship with the Oakwood School.
Impressed with his success with the YMCA programs, Oakwood School asked him to join their staff. From 2003 to 2006 he taught at Oakwood School as a PE Coach, Varsity Girls Basketball, and Varsity Boys Baseball Assistant Coach. After leaving Oakwood School, Tom became an Assistant Varsity/ Head Junior Varsity Basketball coach for Canyon Country High School from 2006-2009. Each summer for the past 13 years, he has been a part of the coaching staff for USSC/Nike Snow Valley Basketball Academy. While still coaching at Canyon Country, Tom came to Chatsworth Hills Academy in August of 2007. Not only is Coach B a teacher here at CHA but a parent as well; his daughter, Faith, graduated 8th grader spring 2017, she had been attending CHA since preschool. While at the YMCA, Tom formed a philosophy that has inspired his teaching here at CHA; that fitness and athletics should be for every student not just for the gifted athlete but also for the student with limited physical abilities. All students should develop a life-long love for fitness and healthy lifestyle. When not teaching at CHA Coach B enjoys playing competitive sports, cooking and most importantly spending time with my family.
