For many of our students at Chatsworth Hills Academy, summer camp at Camp Momonga is one of their most memorable moments of the entire school year! Located right next door to the CHA campus, Camp Momonga resides on 16-acres of beautiful land in the San Fernando Valley. Our summer camp programs provide all of our students with a truly unique, educational experience!
What To Pack For Camp Momonga
Is your CHA student planning on visiting Camp Momonga this summer? Are you stressing over what exactly you should pack for your child’s summer camp experience? Worry no more! Our faculty and experienced camp counselors at CHA have put together a comprehensive list of what you should and should not pack, allowing your child to get the most out of Camp Momonga!
Let’s begin with the basics – the pack! Big duffel bags seem to work best, and they should be large enough to have some extra space after everything is inside. Within the duffel bag, you can invent your own was to organize things: large ziplock bags work well for things like underwear, socks, and toiletries, and extra pillowcases could hold shorts and T-shirts.
Pack Old Clothes
For Camp Momonga, don’t go out and buy your child a bunch of new clothes! Make sure to set aside old t-shirts from past summer camp experiences, or from your child’s sports teams. These shirts oftentimes go unworn, taking up unnecessary room in your child’s dresser. If these old shirts get ruined, you can throw them away, guilt-free!
Don’t Pack Something That’s Irreplaceable
It’s better to be safe than sorry, so don’t send your child to Camp Momonga with anything that is absolutely irreplaceable! For instance, don’t send your camper with their most beloved stuffed animal, as there is a good chance that it will end up misplaced, or even lost!
Make sure to put your child’s name or initials on absolutely everything they are taking! Your child’s duffel bag will likely become messy and disorganized, so it’s wise to ensure that they will be able to keep track of their personal items at all times. For instance, use a marker to write their initials in the tags of their shirts or shorts, or label all of their toiletry bags and bottles for easy identification and access.
Pack A Little Extra
It might be wise to send your child to Camp Momonga with a little extra than you think is necessary! Campers will get some of their clothes wet while swimming, so packing more than one bathing suit might help offset the drying time of their first suit. Also, light colored t-shirts and khaki shorts are likely to get dirty during Arts & Crafts, so try to pack multiples of each to ensure that your child has plenty of clean options.
Items such as toys, iPods, and cell phones should stay at home! Summer camp at Camp Momonga is a place for your child to explore nature, make new friends, and experience amazing things! You don’t want your child to be sitting around inside, so make sure that no technology makes its way into their duffel bag!
Pack A Lunch
If your child is a full day camper, make sure that you send them on their way with a lunch box full of healthy foods! Aside from their lunch, packing extra healthy snacks, such as granola bars or sliced apples, will help fuel your camper during their busy summer camp schedule!
Your Child’s Medication
If your child needs medication, be sure to give it to the camp nurse with instructions on when it is to be administered. Medications such as inhalers and allergy medicine all go straight to the nurse. Don’t send any medication in your child’s bag, even if it is over-the-counter!
